I love all my clients, but I truly ADORE my clients who get me their tax documentation well before the Federal and State taxes filing deadlines. People who submit their tax paperwork early are far more likely to enjoy early refunds – or, at the very least, avoid the frustration and potential cost of being put on extension.

So why am I reaching out to my existing or potential clients in early March? Because I care.

Every tax season, I see the same issues repeat themselves—not because clients are careless, but because documents arrive too late. When paperwork shows up days (or hours) before the deadline, it limits the time available to verify income, reconcile inconsistencies, identify deductions, and resolve missing information. That’s how mistakes happen.

Late documentation also increases the likelihood that a return must be filed on extension. An extension gives you more time to file, not more time to pay. If taxes are owed and not paid by the original deadline, interest and penalties can begin accruing immediately. That is an unnecessary cost and one that is often avoidable with earlier preparation.

Logging into the Forensics CPA Tax portal early allows you to upload the documents that matter most, including:

• W-2s and 1099s (income, interest, dividends, and contractor income)

• Brokerage statements (1099-B and consolidated statements)

• Prior-year tax returns (for new clients)

• Business income and expense records

• Mortgage interest, property tax, and charitable contribution statements

• Retirement, HSA, and healthcare forms (such as 1099-R, 5498, and 1095)

Submitting documents early gives us time to review for accuracy, follow up on questions, and ensure nothing is overlooked. It also puts you in the best position to file on time, minimize risk, and avoid last-minute stress.
